An Akamai and JupiterResearch report states that 4 seconds is the threshold visitors to a site will wait for a page to load before leaving.
The report primarily focuses on the feedback from 1,058 online shoppers but I am comfortable assuming the same threshold extends to informational pages on the web as well.
